A Book of Days
Published in Hardcover by Andrews McMeel Publishing (December, 1999)
Average review score:

a great way to write your historyA book of days is a great way to write down meaningful things that have happened to you. Using it as a mini journal or a timetable, this book is basically a list of the days of the year without a specific year. You keep it year after year (instead of throwing it away like a calendar) and write down anything significant that happened to you on a particular date. Over the years it fills up with short memos of important events and helps you to remember those special milestones without having to write extensively in a journal or run through lengthy volumes to find when something happened. This particular book of days is creatively designed by Claire Murray, a New England Illustrator, who focuses on the beauty that is found in nature. Each month begins with a attractive example of Murray's work while the covers of the book are carefully ornamented with borders and designs inspired by her Nantucket gardens. The book is compact and perfect for beginning the simple legacy that is you.

Bravery: The Story of Sitting Bull (Value Biographies)
Published in School & Library Binding by Childs World (November, 1997)
Average review score:

What A Man!This is a sturdy hardcover book 32 pages in length. Not only is this book well illustrated, accurate, and most informative but it teaches lessons that any of us could afford to learn (or re-learn!). Author Peter Murray gently tells the life story and adventures of "Slow" in a manner that DOES NOT turn young readers off to History. His choice of words entices his audience, young or old, to turn "just one more" page. As a homeschooling Mother of six I especially appreciate the review questions & answers, the helpful study guide, and the time line. I have already incorporated this book, and the rest of the series, into our schooling regimae.

Great bookThis book shows the real role of history, not to regurgitate historical facts, but to weave the complex cloth of what came before us

Breaking into Japanese Literature
Published in Paperback by Kodansha International (May, 2003)
Average review score:

An extremely helpful and very enjoyable bookThere comes a time when any student of Japanese must dare to read his first book of Japanese literature in the original. "Breaking into Japanese Literature" was the perfect book to prepare me for this step. I have read many translations of modern and contemporary Japanese literature in the past few years and for every English book I read I made sure to buy the Japanese original as well (I live in Tokyo where second hand Japanese books can be found at about the 20th of the price of their translations so this is a very small investment).
Now, after spending a few weeks with Mr Murray's book I have finally broken into that unused part of my library.
I have been particularly pleased with the selection of authors and stories as I have always hoped to read Soseki and Akutagawa in Japanese. The stories are captivating, the translation is very careful and elegant and the narration provided online is a wonderful bonus. My Japanese teacher always advised me to read aloud in Japanese, the narrations provided here are not only very entertaining but also very useful.

The British Open : A Twentieth-Century History of Golf's Greatest Championship
Published in Hardcover by McGraw-Hill/Contemporary Books (11 October, 2000)
Average review score:

Great coverage of each Open since 1900This engaging book gives the history of the British Open since it was first played in 1860 with complete coverage of each event since 1900. Most of the individually covered Open championships receive two pages, including good textual reporting of the event as well as photographs. The coverage is divided into historical periods such as the age of Bobby Locke and Peter Thompsion in the 50s and 60s when the two won eight Opens between them. This book is so up to date that Tiger Woods' monumental victory in 2000 receives full coverage. The great Open champions as well as the obscure Cinderella stories all receive lavish treatment. Additionally, the book has other great features such as a description and illustration of each of the Open courses, including venues that have not been used in decades. So, if you want to relive Arnold Palmer's emotional fairwell or the great duel between Nicklaus and Watson in which Watson prevailed after a gut wretching effort, this is the book for you. Additionally, this is the type of book that makes a great gift for the golf lover on your gift list.

Brunschwig & Fils Style
Published in Hardcover by Bulfinch Press (October, 1995)
Average review score:

"Good design is Forever"Murray Douglas is a scholar of historical design. She is keenly aware of the importance of using contempory trends to compliment culturally historic design. The book becomes a resource not only of the history of Brunschwig & Fils and its textiles, trims and wall coverings, but of how well-known designers have integrated the Brunschwig line with their own flair and client's needs. She gives a useful history of the manufacture and use of textiles, trims and wallpapers. Douglas and Irvine tell the story of McLean's photographs as they create a pallette of comfort and style with color and sophistication. I use the book as a text and photo resource for all of my design projects!

Cage Your Rage: An Inmate's Guide to Anger Control
Published in Paperback by Amer Correctional Assn (March, 1992)
Average review score:

Anger managementThis is absolutely the best tool in the market for corrections anger management programs. We are the largest men's prison in the state of Wisconsin, housing over 1900 inmates. Our facility has been using this text for only a few years but the results have been outstanding. I have had inmates tell me that they have not received a conduct report for over 2 years thanks to what they learned. It has reduced minor negative behaviors on the living centers. It has improved the inmate's personal relationships. It has given many the hope and confidence that they will be able to deal with negative situations upon release. If you are a correctional professional, probation & parole, social worker, or client, I urge you to use this valuable book.
